Voter Registration Information

The last day to register for election: October 10th

  If you are not a registered voter in Gallatin County, you can come into the election office, register to vote, and vote in the office between October 11 and November 7.  However, on November 6, from noon til 5 p.m., there will be no voting.
It may take more time to vote at the courthouse, The lines are longer than usual.

Key Election Reminders:
· Remember, if you damage your ballot, make a mistake on it, or overvote, do not throw away your ballot, try to erase it, or scratch out a mistake – just ask an election judge for a new one.
· November 7 is Election Day.  The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in most localities.  Precincts of 200 or fewer voters may open their polling places at noon.  Check the county election office for the polling times and places in your area.
· Don't forget to bring your ID when you vote!


How to Vote by Absentee Ballot

As of Wednesday, November 1st, The election office is not guaranteeing absentee ballots by mail. You need go to the courthouse and pick up the ballot. They can be returned by mail until Friday.

Gallatin County registrants who wish to vote by mail should contact the Gallatin County Election Office, 311 West Main Street, Room 103, Bozeman MT 59715, 406-582-3060 as soon as possible and request an application for an absentee ballot.

Any registered voter may vote by absentee ballot, even if he or she is able to vote in person on Election Day.

To vote absentee, you must first apply for an absentee ballot. Applications are available during a period beginning 75 days before Election Day and ending at noon on the day before the election. You may pick one up at your local election office or at the Secretary of State's Office, or you may call either office and ask to have one mailed to you.

Military personnel serving outside the state or Montana residents living overseas may apply for an absentee ballot at any time.

Once you've submitted your application, your absentee ballot will be mailed to you, unless you indicate on the application that you would prefer to have someone pick it up for you. Once you've marked your ballot, return it to the Gallatin County courthouse before the polls close on Election Day in the secrecy envelope that is provided.

The fastest way to vote absentee is to go directly to your Gallatin County courthouse, where you can apply for a ballot and vote all at the same time.

Voter ID

Every Montana voter is required at the polls to show a drivers’ license, tribal ID, student ID, current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check, or other government document that includes the voter’s current address.
