Clerk &Recorder/Surveyor
I’m Eric Semerad and I’m running for Gallatin County Clerk & Recorder/Surveyor. I first came to Bozeman in 1983 to attend Montana State University. My degree is in Earth Sciences where I learned the cartographic skills that earned me my first job at the Clerk and Recorder’s Office when current Clerk & Recorder Shelley Vance hired me in 1990. I have worked for over 16 years in the office, starting as a Drafting Technician and working my way up to Chief Deputy and Recording Supervisor. For over a decade I’ve supervised all three departments of the Office. The Accounting Department pays all the County’s bills and prepares the annual financial statement. The Election Department conducts elections and manages the voter rolls. The Recording Department records real estate documents, vital records and County Commissioner meetings for retrieval by the public. I know the laws and rules that govern the Clerk & Recorder’s office and will be ready to lead as soon as I take the oath of office.
During my service I have established friendly and professional working relationships with county employees, elected officials and the public. While doing this I have proven that I can uphold the law objectively and with integrity, treating everyone with respect and fairness, and dedicated myself and my staff to providing first class public service to every customer. I’m committed to making the services that the Clerk & Recorder’s Office provides the very best in the state. Under my supervision, the public has rated our services extremely high with a 92% satisfaction rating on the Gallatin County Citizens Satisfaction Survey. I will continue to expand the availability of those services and to bring new and innovative ideas to completion. I will also endeavor to get the various County departments to work more effectively together to provide this same level of service countywide. This commitment to service has always been provided within my budget and I will, at all times, be accountable for the dollars spent.
I am passionate and enthusiastic about this office and it is my pledge to perform these duties to the best of my ability. This is not a stepping stone to a higher office. I love serving the people of Gallatin County and I am determined to continue to do what I love. My long experience and passion for the job make me the most qualified candidate for Clerk & Recorder/Surveyor.
