House District 65
Representative Brady Wiseman

State Representative Brady Wiseman, D-Bozeman, announced today that he will be running for reelection in House District 65. “We made great progress last session in a number of areas, but more work needs to be done”, Wiseman said.
Wiseman introduced 10 bills and got 5 signed into law during the 2005 Legislature. He sat on the Taxation and Agriculture committees, as well as the Federal Relations, Energy, and Telecommunications committee. “We need a better tax deal”, said Wiseman. “Homeowners are still being expected to carry the load, while some of Montana’s largest corporations are paying practically no income tax.” Wiseman closed a small tax loophole, and attempted to require withholding on tax-deferred real estate exchanges.
Wiseman pointed out the successes of the 2005 Legislature, including historic increases in education funding, new health insurance provisions for small businesses, and the elimination of the business equipment tax for 13,000 businesses in Montana. “We were able to work together to make life easier for Montana’s farmers and family businesses, and we expect to continue doing that”, said Wiseman. "And we did it without raising taxes."
Wiseman also expressed concern about the lobbying scandal in Congress, and is calling for public financing of campaigns. "Congress is so crooked now, it would be cheaper for us to pay for the elections than to pay for the corruption", he said.
Better jobs, better lives
Our prosperity here in the Gallatin Valley depends on our quality of life, because that's all we have to offer entrepreneurs and businesspeople who are starting the clean, technology-based businesses that we want. These businesses offer the best-paying jobs in the state.
We need legislators who will fight for our quality of life, including the beauty of our place; the health and safety of our community; our access to the outdoors; and how well we educate our children.
We must protect and extend the prosperity that we're already building, which is based on these quality of life issues.
Clean Air, Clean Water
Our Legislature has been on a ten-year war against the laws that protect our clean air and water. Enough is enough! Every one of our top industries in Gallatin County- agriculture, tourism, and technology-based businesses-depend on the pristine quality of our environment. We need a Representative who will fight for, not against, these laws.
Education
Economically, do we want to move forward to the future or back to the past? The difference is in how well we educate our kids. Our Legislature has been financially choking our schools and University system for ten years. We face a crisis in teacher hiring and the affordability of a college education. It's time for a change!
"Brady has the ideas, vision, real-world experience and good judgment to make Montana a player in the world economy."

Brady has been on the KGLT Advisory Board for many years, helping to bring quality music to the Bozeman airwaves.
Interesting jobs...
His first job in college was as a janitor. He got tired of cleaning toilets and went on to drill 12,000 holes in skis as a ski mechanic. As a college senior, Brady got a job programming an antique computer at the Montana State Forestry Division.
Brady on the Issues:
No one should have the right to have a steering wheel in one hand and alcohol in the other.
If drinking and driving don't mix, why do we allow it? It is still legal in Montana to drive down the highway with a drink in your hand. Brady will introduce a bill in the Legislature to stop this practice.
Education
Since Judy Martz has been in office, Montana has slipped from 46th to 48th in teacher salaries.
School districts in Bozeman and around can't hire enough qualified teachers. This crisis must be solved in the next Legislature. This is Brady's top priority.
What you pay for government
Taxes should be fair, consistent, and reliable. Twenty years in the business world have given Brady a deep understanding of efficiency and productivity. He will demand more of both from state government.
Your Right to Keep and Bear Arms
We don't need more gun control, you don't want it, and Brady won't support it. Period.
Protecting our quality of life
My opponent led the charge to tear down decades of progress to protect our beautiful place. I'll introduce a bill to put the power back into the Montana Environmental Policy Act.
Because conservation is good for business
Who's protecting your privacy?
Brady will. Your medical records and financial affairs are your business, and shouldn't be available to anyone without your permission. What you read, who you email, what web pages you look at should all be protected.
The missing ingredient in the legal framework about information is the recognition that you have a property right interest in information about you.
Tired of telemarketers? Brady believes that you should be able to put an electronic 'no soliciting' sign on your telephone. In the 2001 Legislature, Bozeman Representative Larry Jent introduced a bill that would do just that. If failed. Brady believes that we should bring it up again, and pass it.
What you don't know about electricity deregulation may shock you. Brady will never support secret legislation introduced in the dead of night, and will protect your interests in the ongoing battle over common sense in the power industry.
Republicans voted to raise your electricity rates by 50%, in a secret, last-minute, industry-designed deal.

"Brady recognizes that our schools are investments to be nurtured, not expenses to be cut. He will be a leader in the Legislature, relentlessly fighting for quality education."

Conservation is Good for Business
Montana has what everyone else wants. Our clean air, open space and outdoor lifestyle are attracting new residents and businesses; they have become economic engines. As a result, prudent conservation is good for business and the future of our economy.
Every one of our top industries in Gallatin County - tourism, agriculture, and technology-based businesses - depends on a healthy environment. We need a Representative who will fight for, not against, the laws that protect our prime farmlands, wildlife habitat, and clean air and water.
Public Lands, Public Places
The trend over the past ten years in Montana has been to privatize access to hunting and fishing. Setting aside special hunting licenses for a privileged few:
- locks up the public's wildlife for private use
- threatens our outdoor heritage
- undermines our Montana traditions
Brady says, "Let's favor the public interest first in hunting and fishing access!" He will:
- fight for your right to use your favorite public hunting grounds, fishing holes, and hiking trails
- relentlessly defend Montana's stream access law
- fight to stop attempts to privatize state lands
- protect your right to keep and bear arms
Coalbed Methane?
Our laws on coalbed methane should:
- give Montana property owners a fair shake when dealing with the oil and gas industry
- hold developers responsible for damages and loss of property value
- enable citizens to protect themselves and their property from problems like noise, dust, and traffic
- keep our pristine waters clean
