Larry Jent has been in the House of Representatives for three sessions and he's had 26 pieces of legislation that he authored enacted into law, I think that says a great deal about Larry Jent.

Early Life

Larry Jent is a 1973 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and a 1983 graduate of the University of Colorado School of Law. Representative Jent was commissioned as an infantry officer and was initially assigned to Ft. Richardson Alaska as an airborne rifle platoon leader and later as a company executive officer in the 172nd Arctic Light Infantry Brigade. He then graduated from the Special Forces Officer's course at Ft. Bragg and was assigned as an A-detachment commander in the 3rd Battalion, Tenth Special Forces Group and. He later served as a troop commander in the 163rd Armored Cavalry Regiment of the Montana Army National Guard and as detachment commander in the 19th Special Forces Group.

Now, Larry Jent (D-Bozeman, MT) represents Montana's 64th Legislative District, located within the city limits of Bozeman, Gallatin County, 90 miles north of Yellowstone National Park.

During Representative Jent's first term as a State Legislator, he served as a Vice Chair of the ethics committee. During his second term he served as Vice Chair of the State Administration and Veterans Affairs Committee. His other committee assignments are Health and Human Services, Fish Wildlife and Parks, and Rules. During his two terms in the House he introduced 24 bills, of which 19 became law, the best percentage of any minority member. Those bills addressed such varied topics as a no-call telemarketing list, clandestine drug labs, elimination of punch card ballots, comprehensive election reform and strengthening DUI laws. Representative Jent ran unsuccessfully for congress in 1996 and was elected to represent Montana at the 1996 and 2000 Democratic National Convention. During his third term Larry served as Chairman of the State Administration Standing Committee.

Larry's involvement in the community

Larry has done many deeds to contribute to and become more involved in his community. An avid bowhunter with three bow killed elk, Larry teaches Bowhunter Education through the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Hunter Education program. Larry also is a member of the Noon Rotary Club. He has been a Meals on Wheels driver, a volunteer ski coach, and an athletes representative for the U.S. Biathlon. A leader in Veterans Affairs, Larry has served as Vice Chair of the State Administration and Veterans Affairs Interim Committee. Larry has also recieved the VFW award for meritorious and distinguished service in furthering the aims and ideals of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States
