From the Bozeman Chronicle:
Former lawmaker and Bozeman attorney Mike Wheat said Wednesday he is planning to run for state attorney general in 2008.
...Wheat, 59, described himself as a moderate and a consensus-builder who could work with people from both political parties, pointing to his relationships with Republican lawmakers during his time as senator.
"Those are all experiences and traits important for somebody who wants to be in the attorney general's office," he said.
Wheat also noted that attorneys general in many states -- particularly New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer -- have been very active in using their offices to protect consumers.
Consumer protection, he said, "is important to me."

Meet Scott Sales, new leader of Montana’s House Republicans 4&20 blackbirds
The Comments at the bottom are good.
Quote:
As near as I can tell, the agenda of the Gallatin Valley Republicans is to thwart anything that could reflect favorably on Governor Schweitzer. IMO, they run a very high risk of becoming their own worst enemies, though, so good luck with that.

Jon Tester is voting today. Why? Because it's the way we can win this election. Early voting means that we "bank" votes and don't use precious resources getting out the vote. We can concentrate on the people who haven't voted. Get out the vote is every thing this year. Here's information on early voting.

Dennis Rehberg on Yellowstone Public Radio on MP3 or Windows media
Cece-in-MT (New MT blog very literate)
Tonight's interview with Dennis Rehberg on YPR.
No one fed me the question. I am working one full time job, two part time jobs, I blog, and I make the time to be available for live interviews, debates, and court hearings on this November's election. Perhaps you should take that to mean that I actually bother to be informed about the elections, and the power of the people of Montana's vote and my vote. Perhaps you should understand that I think it is important to point out to people what is wrong with what candidates claim to be the truth, instead of letting yet another lie slip by. Or perhaps you secretly appreciate our blogs, for pointing out the consistent holes in your stated priorities vs. your actions. (Personally, I know it is the latter.)

30% Plus Heating Oil Price Hikes as Winter Looms:
"Buddy, You're on Your Own"
For the better part of a month, Conrad Burns and his Republican colleagues have been talking about helping Montanans face the soaring home-heating costs that are expected this winter. But this morning, Burns voted against essential grant funding to help Montana provide families with heating, housing and food grants. Burns’ actions don’t back up his rhetoric.
Burns Voted to Cut Funding for Housing, Food and Heating Grants. This morning, Burns and his Republican colleagues voted against Sen. Harkin’s amendment to increase funds for the Community Services Block Grant program, which provides states with federal dollars to help people with housing, food and heating costs. By voting against the amendment, Burns went along with the House-passed resolution that “reduces CSBG spending to $320 million, half the $637 million level approved for 2005.” Harkin called the cuts “callous and ill-advised.” [AP, 9/30/05
