Burns Tells Montana Seniors and Families Facing
30% Plus Heating Oil Price Hikes as Winter Looms:
"Buddy, You're on Your Own"
For the better part of a month, Conrad Burns and his Republican colleagues have been talking about helping Montanans face the soaring home-heating costs that are expected this winter. But this morning, Burns voted against essential grant funding to help Montana provide families with heating, housing and food grants. Burns’ actions don’t back up his rhetoric.
Burns Voted to Cut Funding for Housing, Food and Heating Grants. This morning, Burns and his Republican colleagues voted against Sen. Harkin’s amendment to increase funds for the Community Services Block Grant program, which provides states with federal dollars to help people with housing, food and heating costs. By voting against the amendment, Burns went along with the House-passed resolution that “reduces CSBG spending to $320 million, half the $637 million level approved for 2005.” Harkin called the cuts “callous and ill-advised.” [AP, 9/30/05
