Rep. Dennis Rehberg and the Great West sellout

Billings Gazette:
Lawmakers disagree on effect mining proposal would have
Western Senate Democrats including Max Baucus, D-Mont., sent a letter to Senate leaders denouncing the measure and saying it could "trigger a fire sale of millions of acres of America's public lands....
The two sides are far apart on how many acres of public land could be affected by the legislation. Rep. Richard Pombo, R-Calif., who led efforts to pass the measure, said only 360,000 acres of land would qualify, not millions of acres as alleged by opponents.

Rep. Dennis Rehberg voted for the bill and then:
won an assurance from Pombo that he would try to include language in the final bill stating that access to hunting and fishing opportunities would be protected as under current law.
Yeah, Rep. Pombo is a real trustworthy guy.
Talking Points Memo
A name now coming up more and more frequently in Abramoff investigation news is that of Rep. Richard Pombo (R-CA), Chairman of the House Committee on Resources.
