I am writing to express my strong support of candidate Lynea Seher for the Gallatin County Commission. She is the only candidate prepared to address Gallatin County's explosive growth and the myriad challenges and opportunities that accompany growth.
As a longtime businessperson, Lynea is accustomed to putting ideas and plans into action. She is committed to making sure the Gallatin County Commission and county residents have the ability to implement common sense tools to steer our communities’ expansion where desired, while improving infrastructure and safeguarding public health and safety.
Lynea Seher's opponent, Steve White, does not support any zoning in the county to manage booming growth and protect private property holders. Yet Mr. White does not provide a viable alternative solution to ensure our private property retains its value. Polls and surveys of county residents repeatedly show that residents want the Gallatin County Commission to manage and plan for growth, utilizing zoning as one of the management tools to ensure our county flourishes and encourages expansion in the core of our communities, while preserving our agricultural lands and heritage, vibrant neighborhoods, open spaces, and incredible vistas that making living in the Gallatin Valley unique.
Lynea Seher is in step with the majority of Gallatin County residents, who express a strong desire for proactive county growth management and zoning to balance economic vitality with a high quality of life for our neighborhoods and communities. That is why I will cast my vote for Lynea Seher for the Gallatin County Commission on Nov. 7.

As an independent candidate for county commissioner in '98 I tried to warn the Republican Party about their nominee. She had infatuated the local GOP as an anti-government crusader based on the myth that she won her lawsuit against the city over her garage roof (which she didn't). What followed was six years of what can best be described as "The Leona Helmsly approach to Gallatin County government."
This go-round we have another antigovernment crusader running for the GOP nomination for county commissioner. This time the myth is that tyrannical Bozeman shut off his electricity. In fact the Montana Power Company shut off the electricity to Steve White's new place because after repeated warnings he refused to comply with state law regarding electrical permits and inspections. Unfortunately for Mr. White (a budding computer guy at the time) warm weather disconnects are unannounced, so according to Mr. White he lost a bunch of data and software he was working on when Montana Power Co. pulled the plug.
As a master electrician with almost 30 years working in the valley, knowing the inspectors involved at the time, MPC policy, and having listened to Mr. White's accounts, I can say that next to his brother Kerry, Steve White has to be the most accuracy impaired individual I've seen in local politics.
Lately we've had a string elected officials who seem to consider themselves above the law. If not illegal, some of their actions speak to an abysmally low ethical standard. Even fine upstanding folks seem to get into office only to have their ethical standards erode. The last thing we need is a county commissioner who's already over the edge.

My name is Lynea Seher and I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and my campaign for the Gallatin County Commission.
For the past 14 years I have worked as a consultant for companies recruiting and placing talented and experienced personnel in senior management positions. My role has been to help Human Resource departments maximize their time and budgets in maintaining a productive work force. My firm offers a money-back guarantee to companies insuring that they will be satisfied with our services, and in my 14 years, we have never had to give back a single cent. I can offer that same guarantee to the taxpayers of Gallatin County.
There have been several letters and editorials recently criticizing the personnel practices of the county commissioners and the wasted money spent hiring and firing county officials. As a taxpayer in Gallatin County this is troubling to me, but as your next Gallatin County Commissioner, I promise to eliminate this waste.
I have lived in the Gallatin valley for 30 years and have seen it grow by leaps and bounds. The hard truth we face today is that this growth will not slow down. So the question becomes, how do we deal with it? I am not a politician. I have never run for public office before. And that is exactly why I decided to run for the Gallatin County Commission.
Right now we are blessed with the opportunity to make a positive impact on the future of Gallatin County. But without the right leadership, this opportunity will pass us by. The voters in our county have already shown their support for open spaces and neighbors in communities as large as 7500 acres have come together to develop zoning districts to protect their property. I welcome the input and ideas from citizens and look forward to working with all of the cities in our great county. I promise to utilize all the tools at our disposal to effectively manage our growth.
I appreciate your support and look forward to working for you. Together, we can help build a better future for Gallatin County.
