MT-Sen: Liddy Dole backs Conrad Burns on hiring undocumented immigrants
Tester spokesman Matt McKenna fired back.
"The only one of Burns' Washington friends that hasn't been hauled out here to help save his job is Jack Abramoff, and he's on his way to the Crowbar Hotel," he said.

News August 24th 2006
A Belgrade citizen is pretty steamed about John Sinrud. Part of a letter in today's Bozeman Chronicle:
I find it humorous at times and maddening also that he was named Official of the Year by the National Association of Home Builders - nominated by Southwest Montana Building Industry Association. I wonder if he thinks we are unworthy of what we have worked hard for since we live in a manufactured home?
For many generations my ancestors have lived in the Gallatin Valley. You could always depend on a man's word and a handshake to close a deal. Now we can't be sure even when there are legal documents.
God help us if all our representatives in Helena are these "new" developers.
Even the Republicans are saying Conrad's race is doomed. Redstate has invented a brand new catagory of republicans: Stupid Republicans
In this modern era of politics we have a lot of categories for republican lawmakers. You have Rinos or democrats posing as republicans. Then you have moderate republicans and conservative republicans. I would like to add a new category.
Washington Post: Comments Haunt Another Senator
In a moment of unusual candor for a veteran senator fighting for his political life, Conrad Burns (R-Mont.) offered this blunt self-assessment a few months ago: "I can self-destruct in one sentence," he told supporters. "Sometimes in one word."
It seems Burns has spent a good part of the summer testing his theory.

Governor's approval rating
It's cool that Governor Brian Schweitzer's approval rating is high, but what about the other number? George Bush has a 76% approval rating? The same as Utah? That cannot be true reflection of what the average Montanan thinks.

Letters in Chronicle about affordable housing
Here's part of some letters to the Bozeman Chronicle about affordable housing:
...Affordable housing is a difficult issue, but I strongly suspect that Tammy Hall has no interest in finding a solution. She would probably rather snipe at any attempt to address the problem since it will probably have to involve some sort of governmental action. Let's consider the ramifications of not trying to do anything. Do we really want Bozeman to become the next unaffordable community like Jackson Hole? ...

Bozeman
When I moved here in 1992, I remember seeing on the news stories of how families were having to leave their homes and camp out because they couldn’t afford them any more. That was when one could buy a decent home for $40,000 to $60,000 dollars. Now, how is anyone to survive when Bozeman has become a second home investment area for wealthy nonresidents who barely contribute to the local economy and community?
If Bozeman residents want quality, hardworking people out, that leaves a cold, empty space to reside. Thank our lucky stars we have compassionate people like Marcia Youngman sitting on our City Commission and not people like Mike Comstock.

City Commission approves affordable Housing
Bozeman Deaconess Health Services is on its way to creating more than 150 affordable homes in light of a Bozeman City Commission decision.
The commission Monday night voted 3-1 on an affordable-housing plan from BDHS, the nonprofit organization that owns and runs Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.
"It's refreshing to see a developer come in front of us and put forth some
creative ideas to our growing concerns," Commissioner Sean Becker said.

Kate Reid and Communism
It must be election season. We had a old feature on our website called Loon Watch. It's for purple prose that is a bit overwrought. Loon Watch hasn't been used in awhile. We're bringing it back for Kate.
Kate Reid, who a Republican who is running for the Legislature has written a letter to the Chronicle.
I recently read Bozeman's work force housing proposal. It reminded me of portions of the Communist manifesto. If you have not read it, then you should immediately, before the City Commission acts upon this housing plan and you lose something that you did not think you would in the free society of the United States of America.
Sooo our City Commissioners are Communists because they want affordable homes for the good folk that work in our fair city?
Instead of working together to help build a liveable community with suggestions and solutions, Kate is straight attack mode. Looks like we have another Sinrud/Koopman/Sales/Baleat/Warden Clone.
She's running against Represenative Brady Wiseman. Here's Brady's website
